Serve as a leader in rural health economics providing consultation and advising rural stakeholders on the economic impact of rural providers, hospitals, medical schools, residencies, and medical facilities / practices. The Director, while working collaboratively with the Director of the National Center for Analysis of Healthcare Data who will initially act as a Co-Director, and other team members, will be responsible to fulfill the federal grant deliverables while improving the utilization of the existing National Center for Rural Health Works (NCRHW)’s economic impact tools/models for rural stakeholders.
Job Duties: (It should be noted that in the first year the Director will have assistance through a contractual relationship for consultation and training with the prior Director of NCRHW)
Provide expertise in healthcare economic data and through the assistance of contractors, develop the skills to perform the analysis and reporting for the 26 different, existing economic impact tools supported through the NCRHW
Responsible for creating and carrying out the work-plan for the NCRHW summary report and update understanding the data will require annual research and updating with summary reports
Investigate the IMPLAN data offerings to determine budget items for the upcoming year’s deliverables
Works with website developer contractor in migration of current website content into a content management system structure, enhance content with statistics/infographics based upon the existing summary report and other information; and in the development of online economic impact tools
Responsible for the updating of the NCRHW’s website content
Performs statistical analysis of the NCRHW’s provider-based economic impact tools utilizing NCAHD healthcare workforce data and collaborating with the NCAHD Director for the generation of publications/reports
Manages existing stakeholder databases so that they can be utilized for marketing and other web-based communications
Create a web-based tutorial for economic impact models
Create, market and conduct bi-monthly webinars for various stakeholders including a quarterly newsletter distributed electronically to stakeholders
Develop the skills to deliver two national workshop presentations on NCRHW, understanding the NCAHD Director serving as the Co-Director will present the first workshop with the expectation the new Director will present at the second workshop
Identify additional research areas where NCRHW’s economic impact model can be applied
Work to develop networks within stakeholder organizations that would benefit from the utilization of NCRHW’s economic impact tools
Work collaboratively with NCAHD to further rural health research in other areas
As a faculty member, teaching in areas such as the Epidemiology and Public Health course for up to 10 hours.
Build upon a growing Rural Health Research Center to be developed in VCOM through collaboration, providing one area of such expertise.
Service to the College on committees as assigned by the Dean
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education: Ph.D. or other Doctoral degree with a focus in economics and public health or other health related data analysis.
(A Master’s degree with proven interest, experience, and publication in regional or national health economics and/or rural health economics will be considered}
Licensure or certification: none
Experience and proven ability in working in economics
Strong knowledge of the health-care industry and U. S health system
Demonstrated experience in use of IMPLAN data and models
Demonstrated understanding of national economic impact of the health-care sector
Demonstrated expertise and experience in statistical analysis
Experience with content management systems and ability to maintain website that the College builds
Strong research and data management skills
Fluent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to grasp and analyze findings within NCRHW’s economic impact modeling system
Advanced experience in the Microsoft Office suite
Experience in creating/implementing workplans and achieving deliverables
Ability to work on multiple projects and meet deadlines

As VCOM's newest educational partner, the collaborative partnership with Auburn University is much the same as the college’s relationship with Virginia Tech.
