Origins Behavioral Healthcare is seeking a Medical Director / Staff Psychiatrist to provide psychiatric, behavioral and physical medical services for our patients in our Florida in-patient programs (Headwaters and Hanley Center). The Medical Director / Staff Psychiatrist is not only the leader of but also an active member of an interdisciplinary team serving adult clients with co-occurring disorders and will report to our Executive Director.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Oversees and/or determines diagnosis and medical treatment plans for all patients admitted to any of our Florida treatment facilities.
Provide psychiatric evaluation as well as individual and family therapy for adult programs.
Provide consultation to clinical staff, program directors and other department heads on the management of patients with psychiatric co-morbidity.
Provide when necessary, ongoing education and training to clinical staff.
Performs History and Physical on admitted patients, orders and/or discontinues medications, assesses all medical conditions throughout treatment stay, on-going assessments on a daily basis of all detox patients to determine next level of care; case consults for individual treatment updates with other disciplinary team members.
Cooperates and liaises with referring physicians, physicians in the community, other medical and health care facilities, provide medical consultation and policy recommendations to the Clinical Director and other clinical personnel. Supports the Origins treatment philosophy, abstinence, 12 Step Recovery and an integrated, multi-disciplinary treatment team approach.
Provide consultation to the intake department on screening patients with psychiatric co-morbidity for admissions, and help facilitate when needed alternate placements.
To provide as needed, in the respective unit weekly staff treatment plan update meetings, consultation to insure quality clinical supervision psychiatric concerns and issues.
Maintain communications and liaison with referring parties and aftercare groups to see that medical care and continuity of treatment is provided for patients while under the care of Origins Medical Unit Staff and after discharge.
Supervise the training of all medical professionals working in Medical Unit and provide input and assistance in both in-service and outside training for Medical Unit staff.
Communicates and supports the Origins philosophy of addiction as a progressive, treatable, family disease primarily to the patient community and the community as a whole through affiliation with professional groups, medical schools, teaching universities, speaking engagements, as needed.
Assist in the preparation of an annual budget for the Medical Department and other departments within Origins Medical Unit.
As the Medical Director at Origins, clinical privileges are granted in Origins Medical Unit and other Origins treatment programs. Emergency and ongoing medical services are rendered to patients and emergency medical services as needed to staff.
Oversees/Provides medical discharge process.

The Medical Director shall be a physician, licensed and board certified to practice medicine in the state of Florida
Five (5) years experience in the treatment of addictive disease.
License to practice medicine in Origins with competency in Addictions.
Board eligible for adult psychiatry certification.
If in recovery, two (2) years of continuous sobriety preferred.
Must possess good therapeutic intervention skills for use with patients and their families, both in crisis and non-crisis situations.
Must be familiar with adolescent and adult psychiatric theory and practice including, but not limited to, the areas of adolescent development, eating disorders, medication management, and current testing practices, etc.
Ability to manage a detoxification unit and the medical care of the population.
Ability to teach patients and staff about medical complications of addictions.
Knowledge of the fiscal elements of managing a detoxification and medical unit.
Ability to supervise Medical Unit Staff.
