· This is a full-time/exempt term position lasting six months to one year.
A team of microbiologists is seeking a part-time Laboratory Technician (20 hours/week) for a term position of up to one year. This individual will be involved in a novel translational project that brings together the resources/expertise of the clinical microbiology laboratory and more basic microbiologic investigation. He/she will perform laboratory protocols that include bacteriologic and fungal culture, along with nucleic acid manipulation. Previous hands-on experience with these techniques is highly desirable, and at least a theoretical background is required. The position will likewise entail data entry and analysis, so basic computational proficiency is necessary (e.g. word processing, spreadsheets.) A minimum of a bachelor's degree in the biological/life sciences (or an allied field) is required, as an appreciation of the distinct roles of (1) clinical and (2) research laboratories in microbiology. This position represents an opportunity to gain and apply skills that pertain to both environments, as well as be involved in academic publications. It is particularly well suited to someone who is pursuing a career in clinical laboratory science in an academic setting.
Previous coursework in microbiology and molecular biology
Word-processing and spreadsheet capability
ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in biological/life sciences (or allied field)
Previous laboratory experience in microbiology and molecular biology
