The Chair participates with the Dean, Associate Deans, and UNTHSC Clinical Practice Group leadership in helping to formulate a vision and plan that further positions the medical college for leadership across the healthcare industry and community.
The position is responsible for the growth and implementation of the clinical, educational, and research activities of the Department in support of an aligned university vision and plan.
One of the key elements of the current vision and plan is, within a values-based culture, creating the providers of the future through innovative growth of its academic, research and clinical operations. This leader will have primary responsibility for this effort supported by the Dean and UNTHSC Clinical Practice Group.
Knowing that all medical colleges are no greater than their teaching staff, the Chair is responsible for recruiting and developing an outstanding staff. The Chair also provides day-to-day supervision of the academic staff and serves as the senior administrative leader for the faculty and staff in their Department. The Chair performs all these responsibilities with the goal of greatly advancing the skills and abilities of his/her staff, along with improving the daily operations of the Department.
As one of the vital leadership roles within the medical college, this person plays a central role in fulfilling the overall mission of UNTHSC Clinical Practice Group and its delivery of team based primary care. By closely coordinating the clinical, educational and research of their Department with other Chairs and Deans, this position helps foster a true sense of partnership across campus.
Must be a physician with active AOA or ABMS board certification in Family Medicine. Preference for additional certification by the American Osteopathic Board of Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine (AOBNMM) or a Certificate of Special Proficiency in OMM (C-SPOMM).
Active medical license.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience in teaching and academic leadership in a medical education setting of at least 5 years.
Significant clinical management experience of at least 5 years, including experience in expanding clinical locations, staff and services.
Previous experience of integrating team-based care and collaborative interprofessional practice into healthcare delivery.
Experience with quality metrics, productivity and financial reporting.
