The Chief of Social Work reports to the Deputy Chief of Staff and provides leadership and oversight to a dynamic group of 170 social workers. An experienced social work leader, the Chief of Social Work coordinates oversight of Social Work Field Practice placements at VA Boston and maintains academic affiliations with Boston University, Boston College, Simmons College, Bridgewater State University, and Salem State University. The successful applicant will possess skills, knowledge, and experience related to teamwork, flexibility, recruitment and hiring, mentoring and supervision, written and verbal communication, fiscal matters, personnel issues, accreditation audits, and VA guidelines, rules, and regulations. The Chief of Social Work serves as the professional practice consultant and the point of contact for VHA Social Work in Care Management and Social Work Service at VA Central Office. Preferred experience include:
Experience providing and supervising social work services to veterans using evidence-based practices.
Experience leading and supervising a management team
Experience overseeing social work professional practice, to include medical and mental health services in a large institution
Knowledge and ability to apply LEAN management skills to improve processes and social work practice
Skills and abilities to negotiate with all levels of the organization
VABHS is closely affiliated with Harvard Medical School and Boston University School of Medicine and serves as the principal tertiary care referral center for Veterans from throughout New England. VABHS provides a full spectrum of inpatient, residential, and outpatient medical-surgical and mental health services across three major campuses (Brockton, West Roxbury, & Jamaica Plain), five community-based outpatient clinics, and several residential rehabilitation and other facilities.
