Psychologists diagnose mental disorders, conduct psychological and/or neuropsychological assessments, treat mental disorders through a variety of modalities and provide adjunctive interventions for treatment of medical disorders. Among the modalities provided are individual, family, and group psychotherapies, and other interventions such as biofeedback, psychological hypnosis, and environmental interventions. Staff psychologists may be involved in program evaluation and/or research activities. Major duties for the Psychologist include (but are not limited to): Providing psychological assessment services to a wide range of Veteran populations, across treatment settings, and for a broad range of psychiatric conditions, including cognitive impairment. Using measurement-based care in diagnostic decision making, treatment planning, and other decision making. Providing a full range of therapeutic interventions including a commitment to use evidence-based psychotherapies for a wide range of mental health disorders delivered via group and individual psychotherapy modalities, face to face, and via telemedicine equipment. Serving as Mental Health Treatment Coordinator for a panel of Veterans and consulting with medical center staff on a wide variety of patient care issues. Functioning independently as a member of the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System Medical Staff, with full clinical privileges. Assuming complete professional responsibility for his/her clinical assessment findings, patient care decisions, and documentation. Contributing to the training of medical students, medical and psychiatric residents, nursing students, or other mental health trainees, by teaching occasional lectures and seminars and providing limited supervision for clinical practicum experience. Planning and overseeing research programs, in the role of principal investigator or co-investigator, designed to provide information regarding program planning and relevant treatment approaches Assisting the Service Chief, Assistant Service Chief, and/or Administrative Officer in the design, development, and implementation of clinical programs for a team of treatment providers.
