This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Learn more This position involves providing psychological treatment for patients with chronic pain who are involved in the interdisciplinary pain rehabilitation programs within the Chronic Pain Wellness Center of the Phoenix VA Health Care System. The incumbent will provide direct patient care as part of a dynamic interprofessional team including physicians, psychologists, clinical pharmacists, physical and recreation therapists, addiction experts, dieticians, chiropractors, acupuncture providers, and nursing staff. The Chronic Pain Wellness Center provides integrated, whole person care for higher complexity Veterans with chronic pain and common comorbidities such as opioid use disorder, depression, anxiety, obesity, and sleep disorders. In addition to providing direct patient care, this psychologist communicates and coordinates with the Chief of the Chronic Pain Wellness Center to plan the implementation of services to meet the most significant behavioral health care needs of the Veterans served. Pain psychology experience highly preferred. Other duties include, but not limited: Provide a full range of pain management assessment and treatment services, using individual and group modalities, and using evidence-based psychotherapies, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Pain (CBT-Pain) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Pain (ACT for Pain), as available and applicable. Provide care within integrated, interprofessional team for complex patients. Provide education to patients, family members, and significant others. Develop, implement, and document the psychotherapeutic treatment recommendations for interdisciplinary Chronic Pain Wellness Center patients, including prompt completion of clinical reminders. Provide psychological treatment services to patients with chronic pain who are receiving long term opioid therapy. Provide consultation to professional staff within the Phoenix VA Healthcare System and to community provides concerning clinical assessment findings and appropriate treatment plans for patients. Promote communication/interactions between medical team members, patients, and their families to facilitate the medical treatment process. Complete all clinical charting and documentation required by the PVAHCS in a timely manner (within 24 hours in most cases). Attend treatment team meetings with designated professionals involved in the service delivery of veterans treatment. May serve in an academic appointment. May present outcome data and research results at VA and regional or national scientific of professional meetings. May assist in preparation of RFP's and grant proposals. May represent the PVAHCS at professional/program community group/events and committees. Perform other related duties as assigned.
