Psych Associates and RNs report to the Nurse Manager
Size of unit: 14 beds
Size of team: 6 RNs, 5 Psychiatric Associates, 6 Therapists, 2 HUCS, and one Behavioral Assistant
Staffing patterns: 1 RN on each shift regardless of census, 1 PA for 1-6 patients on days and eves, 2 PAs for 7-14 patients days and eves, 1 PA or BA on nights regardless of census, 3-4 therapists per day (one day,one split, one evening), 1 HUC per day 11-7, one provider for the unit (nurse practitioner)
Highlights of why someone would want to work on 3C: team approach, intensive family and individual therapy unit, 5-7 day program, patients are voluntary and agree not to run away, harm themselves or others, attend all groups, therapy, and activities, subacute setting, psychoeducational groups throughout the day and evening shifts. Its rewarding to see the progress patients and family make.
Awards: 3C achieved the 90 th percentile for overall rating by our patients and families for the 3 rd quarter of 2017
Unique patient population: 3Cs patients are 12-18 (mature 12 years old, 18 if still in high school). Our patients want to be here, want help, and are willing to do the work. Psych associates are required to run psychoeducational groups (training is available). 3C is subacute: patients may go off unit with staff or parents, we do 30 minute checks, we do not do searches (patients or their belongings), nurses need to be comfortable being the only nurse on the unit.
